Neuschwanstein Castle
Neuschwanstein Castle was built between 1869 and 1886 under King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It was built on the ruins of "Vorder- und Hinterhohenschwangau" in the style of a medieval castle. Today, it is the most famous of King Ludwig II's constructions and is located in a unique spot on top of a rock offering visitors a breathtaking view over the mountains, lakes and the Pöllat Gorge. The interior is designed based on the legends of German knights and on the musical world of Richard Wagner. The 50 feet high throne room, based on a Byzantine Basilica in blue and gold with a beautiful mosaic floor is certainly a highlight of the Castle. However, the King died before the room was finished, and the throne room never got used

The final result can still be admired today. The Castle is one of the most important late gothic castles in Germany. It features a quaint courtyard and unique trompe-l'œil (illusive paintings) on the facades. Lechfall water fall with Maxsteg

- Lechfall water fall
The Lechfall is almost 12,000 years old. At that time, the last ice time in the Ostallgäu region came to an end. The melting Lech Glacier left enormous amounts of gravel and boulders, and a large lake was created in the Pfronten valley floor. The water fell over 300 feet over today’s Lechfall into the Füssen lake. The water of the Pfronten lake drained little by little, after the Lech river slowly created a channel through the rock. The Lechfall is significant for Füssen because it’s impressive appearance is a unique natural monument in Germany and it is a tourist magnet.

Lake Forggensee
Lake Forggensee, fifth largest lake in Bavaria, lies in the path of the Lech river near Füssen, only five minutes on foot from our Hotel. A retaining dam was built between 1950 and 1954 to dam the Lech river and create Lake Forggensee. The dam with the name “Speicher Rosshaupten” is used for power generation with hydropower stations along the Lech. Furthermore, it is used for the important regulation of water levels in the Lech during the yearly spring runoff.
